Goblin of the Hearth II
STORYTELLER
Here we spy a Wizard, wandering
He is the wish of a desperate man
He is the prayer of a woeful woman
He is Robin’s only hope.
Our Magician strides like steel blades cutting skin
Tearing up the land around him
No thought for his Mother.
Stopping, at a strange stone circle,
He uncovers his new piece
For pride of place
…a stone, not from philosopher
But from ground and mud.
A great thud and an eruption…
His cosmic alchemist ways
Launch it upward
Bending the laws he obeys
He separates the stone with a wave of his wand
It is his spade.
And forth, from the gap in shape
A path is made.
With the stone circle broken, The Wizard inspects his new possession.
He does not see Goblin in the centre at all.
THE WIZARD
By the call of the raven
By the sands of time
I hereby claim this stone
To be mine.
This statue in making
This gargoyle blurred
Will be unfurled and brought to life
As I carve for my son
A golem wife.
The Wizard begins to summon servants from the wood.
THE WIZARD
Come to me my puppets
My tenders of the garden
I beckon you to carry
All of my hardships and burdens…
…and you shall take the strain
…and I will feel no pain
Slaves they march.
Dragging weights not their own
As they build Pyramid
As they sculpt throne
For you will fund empires
With the snap of your backs
For you pay with your life
As some offered blood tax…
The servants, mindless yellow eyed sprites, appear.
They pick up the stone and heave it off and away.
The Wizard leaves with them.
Goblin is caught agog as he stands up.
GOBLIN
A doorway appears.
It frightens me more than the bars that hold me.
They are brittle in comparison
For I am used to them,
But the light… the light scares me.
I have not felt it’s seductive touch for many days
Weeks have passed since I last shared a gaze
And months and years
I fear, make shadows my company
My curse, now broken… quite clumsily.
Still, I must step through
Into great unknowns I bound
What I find will have never been found
He steps through the gap in the circle and realises he is free.
GOBLIN
Do I jump back inside the cave?
It may be dank but inside I feel brave.
I can shout at passers-by and
I can wave…
…no matter now
I must be brave.
I must gear up and charge ahead,
I must be strong and evade
Any feelings of hiding from the world
I have been hurled,
Plunged forth… be not afraid.
Do I jump back inside the cave?
This man made prison to hold a knave.
I can rot away – my own perdition
Abide my looming grave…
…tis’ no matter now
I must be brave.
Darkness falls as Puck runs out of the grove.
End of Part II
-----
Goblin of the Hearth III
In the fireplace, sits Puck.
He watches as the Wizard’s servants place the stone in the centre of his house.
They leave him alone with the stone.
STORYTELLER
Our Wizard stands with standing stone
A drone, he wants to sculpt
And so he can offer to his son
A wife made from the occult.
The Wizard picks up a chisel and hammer.
THE WIZARD
My hands
My hands do shape
They mould the clay of the land
And paint pictures with dimensions
Like sharp and pointed towers
Marked and made Landmarks
These hands
These damned hands
Can no longer fold material like dough
I need more
Something else…
And so I summon Veles
From the lowlands.
Guide my hand to chip away
And so I summon Thoth
From the white river bed
To place thought in mind
And so I summon Hephaestus
From the fiery pits of his workshop
To use his strength to strike this hammer…
With all these powers
I will craft.
That which I seek,
Flesh so meek…
That which is sought,
A woman from my thoughts
The Wizard begins to sculpt the stone from the circle.
STORYTELLER
Our Wizard stands with masterpiece
In Mantelpiece, sits our Goblin
And he, now free, will play his trick
And leave the mark of Robin…
Goblin begins to make his hands dance, his eyes widen as he adds his own element.
GOBLIN
In the Hearth, he plays his tricks
Crafty like Puck…
From the side, some lunatic
Changing the luck.
Cast Fae meddling,
Cast Fae tricks…
Add some entertainment to the golem stone maiden mix.
The Wizard stands back to reveal a female statue carved from the stone.
THE WIZARD
Her hands
Her hands are spring
Warming, subtle.
Her smile is like the Beltane sun
It guides and lights the way
Leading to light filled day.
Her hair it is the vines of ivy
That wrap around…
Her eyes are things of beauty
That entice you in…
Her teeth…
He stares.
THE WIZARD
Her teeth?
It cannot be…
They point out like canine
They stab out like steel
They fiercely pierce the scene…
The statue opens her eyes and looks at the Wizard.
THE WIZARD
She is awake…
Nevermind this mistake of tooth
Forget this mouthy muddle
For I have forged a golem wife
For my son
He is sure to be befuddled.
Azcorius! Azcorius!
Dela Martey come quick!
Two sons enter the scene.
One cheap, One dumb.
AZCORIUS
Father, Father, we have come
We are here. I your most handsome…
And Dela Martey, most dumb.
DELA MARTEY
I… are, not dumb!
For I can spake in the same manner as you
True, I know not all the answers
But still I think…
AZCORIUS
You blink, you mumble, dribble and gawp
You who is overcome
by the simplest of thoughts.
My perfect good looks,
My stunning physique,
Makes you the prize pig
Whilst I stand unique…
The Wizard slams his fist.
THE WIZARD
Be still! Be still and stop this bicker,
I have thumbed pages of wicca…
I have conjured the forces of dark…
Be still your bark!
Marvel at my achievement,
Gaze at this feat,
She, I have sculpted,
She, so sweet.
He points towards the Golem Wife.
AZCORIUS
Her teeth are crook’d.
They stand in silence as The Wizard’s anger builds.
DELA MARTEY
I think she is beauty.
I think she is such niceness.
I like her…
He gawps at the Golem Wife.
THE WIZARD
I didn’t make her for you!
He drags the Golem Wife to Azcorius and hands her over.
AZCORIUS
Ergh. Shudder.
THE WIZARD
Presented to you, a stone made wife.
Now I pronounce you, married for life.
AZCORIUS
I, regretfully thank you Father,
For presenting me this wife
For making me this Golem
I am… lost for words.
But, tell me please,
If you would…
Her teeth?
Why are they so sharp?
They pierce the senses so awfully.
Dreadful sight.
Tell me… you the master artist…
This must be deliberate.
THE WIZARD
I cannot take pride in my creation
Through some sort of unknown pass
My creation was defiled and wrecked
This master, left agog and aghast…
They all group together around the Golem Wife.
DELA MARTEY
Well, if my brother ain’t wanting her,
P’raps I could have her.
THE WIZARD
She is not for you Dela Martey!
She is for your brother,
You are not to touch her
Or speak or utter…
The Wizard leaves and drags Dela Martey with him.
AZCORIUS
So, here we are, a wife made of stone.
Beautiful eyes, beautiful nose…
And teeth that, are not so.
I suppose we could make things work.
At least, let us try.
Now come my love…
It is our wedding night.
