Poetry Prompt: Opportunity
Poets: Carol Forrester, Sue Fernott, Brittaina Goffy, Syeda Faiza and Ambrozya
Opportunity by Carol Forrester
That moment on the edge of the cliff,
where the storm has your breath
and every lungful feels like ice and nails
because the way back is sand
and stone
and every grey and know,
but the forward,
forward is down,
or up,
or parallel,
it's a way but you're not sure which yet,
and you know that all you must do
is shift one foot
but your feet are lead
and your lungs are screaming along
with the voices inside and outside your head
telling you what to chose.
None of us are ever sure what to chose.
where the storm has your breath
and every lungful feels like ice and nails
because the way back is sand
and stone
and every grey and know,
but the forward,
forward is down,
or up,
or parallel,
it's a way but you're not sure which yet,
and you know that all you must do
is shift one foot
but your feet are lead
and your lungs are screaming along
with the voices inside and outside your head
telling you what to chose.
None of us are ever sure what to chose.
Opportunity to escape, O soul! by Syeda FR
Knocking things down in frustration,
You walked away heartlessly from me.
I looked at your back with bated breath,
My heart beating to escape from the bony cage.
Hopes anew that you'd look back,
And this nightmare would end.
You didn't turn towards me, your steps took you away
Truth dawned on me, while darkness followed behind.
My heart wasn't enough, my love couldn't hold you long,
My soul was trampled upon, feelings writhing in pain.
Poisoned by heart break, rendered lifeless by solitude,
Driven insane by rejection, I thoughtfully came to a conclusion.
You took your decision and left me, with no foretold warning,
I took it as an opportunity to break free the soul, from the shackles of flesh and blood.
Genrification/Opportunity by Brittaina Goffy
I could view it as
Gentrification, the younger ones
crawling into the spaces
I've left behind
I could view it as an
Opportunity, soaring up
high, higher into the
sky
I could say they're
helping me, pushing me up,
forcing me to pay, stressing me out,
out into the sky, fall or fly
Gentrification, the younger ones
crawling into the spaces
I've left behind
I could view it as an
Opportunity, soaring up
high, higher into the
sky
I could say they're
helping me, pushing me up,
forcing me to pay, stressing me out,
out into the sky, fall or fly
Some words she wrote by Ambrozya
Hidden between the lights
Where shadows barely exists
A smile with dry lips
Just enough glitter
To perpetuate the illusion
This mirage again
Of a never be
Of what it could have been
Hidden between the lines
Empty spaces between letters
A secret, not dark
There lies
A fallen heart
Cradled in the arms
Of the devil
Where shadows barely exists
A smile with dry lips
Just enough glitter
To perpetuate the illusion
This mirage again
Of a never be
Of what it could have been
Hidden between the lines
Empty spaces between letters
A secret, not dark
There lies
A fallen heart
Cradled in the arms
Of the devil
Time To Travel by Sue Fernott
Somewhere
Beyond the blue horizon
Is the life you might have had.
Across the barren wasteland of Indecision
Through the forest of Procrastination
And
Down into the valley of Missed Opportunity.
But it’s not too late
It’s far away
And not an easy path
But if you start now, you just might get there.
Beyond the blue horizon
Is the life you might have had.
Across the barren wasteland of Indecision
Through the forest of Procrastination
And
Down into the valley of Missed Opportunity.
But it’s not too late
It’s far away
And not an easy path
But if you start now, you just might get there.
